Two weeks! I spent two whole weeks in the land down under and not once did I spot a wild kangaroo or Hemsworth…disappointing to say the least! Despite the noticeable lack of bouncing marsupials and men with thunderously good looks, I did enjoy many amazing and beautiful things.
My trip started in the Coffee capital of Australia (the world?) – Melbourne (pronounced Melbin, as I quickly learned). While I could regale you with the breathtaking parks and dangerously good food, by far, my favorite event in Melbourne was the opportunity to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the historic Princess Theatre. You expected anything different from a self-proclaimed Potter head?

From Melbourne, I hopped a short hour plane ride up the coast to Sydney – well…it should have been short; 4 hours of delays and a cancelled flight got me into the city with just enough time to catch a few hours of sleep before I had to be up and functioning at a scheduled meeting the next morning. The good news is, despite the delays, I was scheduled to spend the weekend in Sydney which meant I still had enough time to explore this wild and wonderful city. Of course I went to the harbor and took the obligatory Opera House selfie, but hands down, my favorite site in Sydney was the roughly 6 km coastal walk from Bondi to Coogee Beach. From sheer rock cliffs to beautiful white sand beaches, the views were stunning around every corner.

The final stop on my two week adventure landed me in Brisbane, Queensland’s Riverside City – a thriving hub of arts, culture and dining. My time in Brisbane was disappointingly short but that being said, I thoroughly enjoyed the warm afternoon I spent aimlessly wandering through Southbank – an oasis of lush parklands, unique culture and arts. Oh and I nearly forgot – I was stopped by a YouTuber who tried to stump me with Aussie slang…fun fact guys, I am really good at deciphering local colloquialisms but really bad at imitating accents!

All in all, I can safely say Australia is now one of my favorite places on earth. Vibrant cities, beautiful beaches and the chance, however slim, to see a wild Hemsworth…or maybe a kangaroo 🙂
