I never expected to like it. That may not be entirely true, maybe a more accurate statement would be, I never expected to get in this deep…and by “it” I mean the world of Cosplay. If you know (or follow) me at all, you know that not only am I in it…I’m in it as far as one can go, so I won’t take time to rehash how I got to where I am today. Instead, I wanted to share with you how a weekend project, a year ago, with craft foam and spray paint turned into computer specs, real leather and Wonderflex.
To the casual observer, my Wonder Woman outfit hasn’t changed. It’s still red, blue and gold with a rocking shield and kick ass heels, but for me, everything has changed. A little over a year ago when I made the impromptu decision to rock Wonder Woman at the September SLC con, I had no idea what kind of impact that would have on my life. It was my first attempt at any type of Cosplay build, and very typical of me, go big or go home. I pulled up every image of the new Wonder Woman outfit I could get my hands on, (and at the time there were very few as she was just a 3 second glimpse in a trailer for Batman vs. Superman) and stalked any blogger that had attempted to build the same. After reading tutorial after tutorial, I decided that craft foam on top of a cheap corset was my best option. Roughly one million weekends and a lot of late nights later, and I had what passed for a very good, albeit crude, Wonder Woman outfit. I’ll spare you the details but long story short, by the end of that first con weekend, I was on a first name basis with the sweet ladies running the Cosplay repair booth – much was learned.
Fast forward one year and many weekends spent at hospitals, charity events and even a few cons later, I knew it was time to retire the now hashed craft foam beauty and move onto something better, something worthy of the Wonder Woman name. I present, without further ado, Wonder Woman 2.0.
